Fender Jazz Bass '73 Front View

Hands down winner of the clean-tones battle and one of the most comfortable necks available, it's no surprise to find Fender Jazz Basses everywhere. It's also no surprise that the two cleanest sounding basses, this and the Hagstrom Swede, are also the heaviest axes I've ever slung over my shoulder. Wear either of these axes for an entire gig and you'll go home at least an inch shorter in stature. Early 70's Fender guitars are infamous for their heft. Tom keeps this and his P Bass strung with medium gauge Fender flatwounds. A delight to play and an excellent choice for recording.
