Fender Jazz Bass '73

(stage rig)

The Yamaha preamp and QSC amp (bridged for 1000 watts) push the EV cabinet with JBL 15" speaker. Sometimes Tom adds a second 15" cabinet. This rig is, for sure, the hands down winner of the clean-tones battle. With one of the most comfortable necks available, it's no surprise to find Fender Jazz Basses everywhere. It's also no surprise that the two cleanest sounding basses, this and the Hagstrom Swede, are also the heaviest axes I've ever slung over my shoulder. Wear either of these axes for an entire gig and you'll go home at least an inch shorter in stature. Early 70's Fender guitars are infamous for their heft. Tom keeps this and his P Bass strung with medium gauge Fender flatwounds. A delight to play and an excellent choice for recording.
